Provision 29: The End of Compliance Theater for UK Boards
The UK Corporate Governance Code 2024 has introduced a mandate that eliminates "boilerplate" compliance. Provision 29 requires boards to provide a formal declaration regarding the effectiveness of their material controls—covering financial, operational, reporting, and compliance risks FRC.
The Year of Evidence
This mandate applies to financial years beginning on or after 1 January 2026. This means 2026 is the year for building the evidence trail. You cannot declare a control effective in your 2027 report if you cannot prove it was monitored throughout 2026.

Strategic Advantage
Compliance should not be a burden; it should be a competitive advantage.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Stop relying on annual audits.
- Audit Readiness: Maintain a continuous trail of evidence.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify and fix control failures before they hit the balance sheet.

Boards that view Provision 29 as a box-ticking exercise will find themselves exposed during the first reporting cycle. Use 2026 to turn GRC into a strategic engine.
